What is the purpose of a company's review and report of internal control over financial reporting?

doing accouting hw and i can't find this answer thanksWhat is the purpose of a company's review and report of internal control over financial reporting?
This is done now to be in compliance with the Sorbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 to help ensure that financial scandals such as those of Enron, Adelphia, and Tyco International, etc. are not repeated. The Act is in place to restore investor confidence in publicly traded companies' financial statements.
