Is it absurd to have one company(AIG) in control of so much money?

I agree with you. Anything with so much excess is off balance %26amp; will eventually have to purge. There should be a limit. If we had other companies in competition it would be better for us all. This is putting to many eggs in one basket. I limit my own level of business. People offer ideas for my handyman business or want to work for me. I keep it simple. I am able to run it without doing anything %26amp; spend too much time on here so I am starting my own organizing businees. I have no huge dreams just want to work each day helping people clean up their clutter %26amp; pay my bills. Is it absurd to have one company(AIG) in control of so much money?
Yes it is! We should never have let corporations grow so big in the first place. When our country first started, corporations had to apply to the govt. for a charter. They wrote a document showing (limiting) how big they could grow, what business they would be engaged in, etc. After ten years they had to have their charter renewed, and the govt. looked at how well they had kept their promises. Today, though, corporations are not only allowed to grow as big as they like, but to merge together to eliminate competition.

Every big market--aviation, broadcasting, print media, entertainment, energy, finance, etc. etc.--is dominated by four or five huge corporations that are now 'too big to fail'. They lobby for deregulation to allow them to engage in non-competitive business practices and also to take high risks for high yield, knowing that if they fail the govt. will bail them out.

AIG got into trouble with 'credit default swaps', which should have been illegal to do in the first place. Congress let them do it because they were so big and powerful nobody wanted to vote against them. It's just the wrong way to run a country. Is it absurd to have one company(AIG) in control of so much money?
No, it's not absurd at all. What do you consider too much? You want to now regulate the success of a company? Think long and hard on this one. Should Microsoft, HP, Dell, or AT%26amp;T down downsizing because someone feels they are too big?
Consider it like this... the government holds 80% of the company now. And that money comes from you... so essentially you are a stockholder in the company now.
Huh ? not such a great idea after all.....what's your plan ?
