How is the level of microbial control by farmers measured by the dairy company?

I cannot find the answer, help.....pleaseHow is the level of microbial control by farmers measured by the dairy company?
A long time ago microbe count was measured in parts per million by USDA inspectors. They would take monthly samples if the count was acceptable, and, I suspect, more frequent samples if the count was borderline or unacceptable. Failure on a USDA inspection resulted in a ban on milk pick-ups until the deficiencies found were corrected.

The USDA website should be able to provide more information.
